A Question?
In a rectangular long bar,the sonic impulse excitation is done on its end face by a hammer of the same dimension. The impulse travels at several times the speed of sound in air and the wave mass of the impulse is the difference of the compressed and the decompressed region in mass during the impulse time. This mass difference travels at the above mentioned speed all along the length of the rod.
So,the event mass is directly proportinal to initial impact energy for the given physical parameters.
