Texas STAAR High School: EOC Guide and Practice

Algebra I, English I, English II, Biology and U.S. History practice, current TEKS and English II/SST transition guidance.

What students take

High-school STAAR assessments are course-based end-of-course (EOC) tests: Algebra I, English I, English II, Biology and U.S. History. Students take the applicable assessment when enrolled in the course; these are not five tests assigned to a single school grade.

English I and English II include reading and writing. U.S. History focuses on the course since 1877, with foundational historical connections. Biology uses the current science TEKS.

English II remains a STAAR assessment for first-time testers enrolled in the course in 2026–27. TEA identifies June 2027 as its final administration. Its August 20, 2026 guidance removes the English II EOC graduation requirement for students graduating after August 31, 2027, while earlier graduates remain subject to applicable requirements. Schools determine individual participation, retesting and graduation pathways.

Independent, original skill practice with selected TEKS connections. These shorter banks cover each tested subject and major content category, but not every assessed standard or official item format. They are not official STAAR tests, SST simulations, adaptive tests, or score predictions.

Skills in these practice banks

A short question may practice only part of a standard. These connections are selected, not a complete assessed-standard checklist. Use TEA's assessed curricula and blueprints below for the full scope.

A useful practice routine

  1. Choose a skill and try a question before opening its hint. Review the explanation and try again.
  2. For reading, cite details from the passage. For writing, plan a response, organize evidence, and revise the wording and conventions.
  3. Explain mathematical reasoning and scientific or historical evidence. Include units, patterns, context and limits of conclusions.
  4. Use the written checklist and example to revise. Drafts stay in this page's memory during practice; leaving or reloading clears them.
  5. Use official practice to learn question formats and testing tools. Follow your school's calculator, reference-material and accessibility guidance.

2027–28 transition and school guidance

STAAR is the current 2026–27 assessment program. Texas plans to introduce the Student Success Tool (SST) beginning in 2027–28, with beginning-, middle- and end-of-year assessments. TEA has published future SST resources; some linked blueprints still carry draft labels. The practice here follows current STAAR content, with transition guidance rather than SST mock exams.

Schools confirm 2026–27 local testing dates and individual requirements. Texas's future BOY/MOY/EOY program is separate from Florida FAST; these banks do not reproduce either state's progress-monitoring tests.
