What MAP Growth measures

MAP Growth is NWEA’s computer-adaptive interim assessment of achievement and academic growth. Many schools give it in fall, winter and spring; your school chooses the schedule and subjects. It complements state assessments such as FAST, CAASPP and STAAR.

Official questions can become more or less difficult as students answer. Grades on our site help you find a starting point; the school assessment can include skills above or below that grade.

Subject availability

Official English MAP Growth subject ranges; this collection provides grades 3–8.
SubjectAvailable grades
Math K–12
Reading K–12
Language Usage 2–12
Science 2–12

Schools may use a subset of these subjects. Language usage practices planning, revision and conventions; it is separate from reading and does not provide an essay-writing score here.

Choose skills and learn from feedback

  1. Choose a grade and subject, then practice all skills or focus on one.
  2. Use Foundation, Core or Challenge, or let adaptive practice choose from available questions.
  3. Check your answer, read the explanation and try the linked learning activity.
  4. Review your first-attempt progress. It stays in this browser until you reset it.

Understanding school reports

Official MAP Growth reports use the RIT scale and may show achievement percentiles and growth comparisons. A practice percentage is not a RIT score or percentile. Ask your school which test version and norms it uses, and review the Family Report with your teacher.

NWEA published its latest 2025 norms technical manual in July 2026. Our practice does not convert answers to those norms, predict state-test proficiency or replace a school assessment.
