Understanding Health Vocabulary

Health vocabulary connects daily choices to the systems working inside your body. Food terms help you see meals as more than a list of ingredients. A balanced plate gives a useful pattern for planning meals, while whole grain, protein, fiber, and calcium-rich foods each play different roles.

Macronutrients provide energy or building material. Glucose can be used quickly by cells, while fatty acids can provide stored energy. Amino acids are used to make body proteins.

Some amino acids are essential because food must supply them. Complete protein is a helpful idea when comparing food sources. Learning these terms helps you choose foods for steady energy, growth, digestion, and recovery rather than judging a food by one number alone.
