Quick self-quiz
Tap each word to check what it stands for.
When to use it
Use it when answering a text-based question to make sure your response is complete and supported by evidence.
Example
Question: 'How does the author show the character is brave?' RACE response: Restate the question, state the character is brave, cite a line from the text, then explain why that line proves bravery.
Common mistake
Stopping at Cite and omitting Explain. Quoting evidence without connecting it to the answer leaves the reader to draw the conclusion for you.
