Your goal

Reflect every gold tile across the mirror line. Make an exact matching pattern on the right with no extra tiles.

Reduced motion is on. The controls still update the scene.

0 of 3 reflected tiles match. 0 extra tiles need clearing. Selected tile D1 is empty. Matching tiles stay on the same row and the same distance from the mirror.

Mirror column

Tap the right half of the grid, or choose a row and column with the large controls and use Toggle selected tile. This model reflects square centers across one fixed vertical line.

Learn with Mirror Symmetry Studio

Mirror Symmetry Studio helps children in Grades 2–5 construct reflections on a square grid. A fixed gold pattern sits beside a vertical mirror line. Students tap squares on the other side or use row and column controls to build its reflection. Every matching tile must stay on the same row and sit the same distance from the line. Feedback counts matching and extra tiles, encouraging students to check the whole pattern rather than its general shape. Later patterns extend across more rows.

What to look for

Stay on the same row

A reflection across this vertical line moves a tile sideways while keeping its row unchanged.

Count from the line

Match a tile one square from the line with a tile one square away on the opposite side.

Use either control

Tap right-side squares directly or choose a row and column, then toggle the selected tile with the large button.

For teachers and curious learners

Build exact reflected patterns by preserving rows and equal distances from a vertical line of symmetry. Ask students to predict what will happen, change one setting, and explain what they observe. Learn gives a starting point. Practice and Challenge offer new goals with the same scene.

The grid uses exact square-center reflections about one fixed vertical line between columns C and D. The gold pattern is fixed, and only right-side tiles can be changed.
