Florida Grade 6 FAST Reading Practice

Practice Florida Grade 6 reading benchmarks with source texts, hints, explanations, and a skill selector.

Original classroom texts and questions, plus two attributed historical poems in the public domain in the United States. This independent practice supports multiple-choice and multi-select questions. It is not released FAST material, an adaptive test, a full-length simulation, a full-year curriculum, or a prediction of official scores. Selected examples practice each listed benchmark; they do not cover every subskill or official item format.

Official Reading sessions are 90 minutes for PM1/PM2 and 120 minutes for PM3. Actively working students may continue to the end of the school day. Official tests have 36–40 scored items, plus approximately five Spring field-test items; this shorter bank has no time limit.

Ask for a hint when you need one. All levels use the same original questions.

The Lantern Crossing — Original Story

LENA — I had promised to hang our handmade lanterns before the neighborhood reading night. At the canal gate, Amir stopped my cart. 'The wind will tear the thin paper,' he said. I thought he was delaying us because he disliked my design. I tugged the handle; one lantern folded against the rail. My certainty cracked like that paper.

AMIR — Lena called me slow. I had spent an hour testing the frames and wanted her lanterns to survive. I showed her a frame braced with crossed strips. 'Let us reinforce yours in the covered workshop,' I said. She looked at the torn paper and nodded. We could reach the courtyard by the sheltered lane afterward.

LENA — In the workshop I held the frames while Amir tied the braces. I asked about his test instead of guessing his reasons. We arrived after the first readers, but the lanterns stayed bright all evening. When a younger child admired mine, I pointed to Amir's knots. A delayed arrival no longer seemed a failure.

How does Amir's interaction with Lena change the plot?
