Florida Grade 7 FAST Reading Practice

Practice Florida Grade 7 reading benchmarks with source texts, hints, explanations, and a skill selector.

Original classroom texts and questions. This independent practice supports multiple-choice and multi-select questions. It is not released FAST material, an adaptive test, a full-length simulation, a full-year curriculum, or a prediction of official scores. Selected examples practice each listed benchmark; they do not cover every subskill or official item format.

Official Reading sessions are 90 minutes for PM1/PM2 and 120 minutes for PM3. Actively working students may continue to the end of the school day. Official tests have 36–40 scored items, plus approximately five Spring field-test items; this shorter bank has no time limit.

Ask for a hint when you need one. All levels use the same original questions.

My Perfect Harbor Map — Original Story

I, Niko, had made the best harbor map anyone could want. I wrote in my notebook, 'Every landmark checked, Tuesday.' Really, I had copied last year's map at my desk; I had not visited the harbor. A little shortcut hardly counted as a mistake. When Suri asked whether the old pier was still open, I said a confident map was better than a nervous one.

At the harbor the fog hid the far shore. Our instructions depended on seeing a red tower across the water. Suri stopped at the closed pier gate and showed me a dated notice: 'Pier closed Monday for repairs.' My map pointed visitors through that gate. She suggested using the market bell and the paved walkway on our side instead. I called that unnecessary caution, but followed her.

A visitor asked which route was verified. I almost repeated my boast. Then I pictured someone waiting at the locked gate in thick fog. 'My first map was copied,' I admitted. Suri and I walked the open route together, recorded each turn, and changed the map. In my final entry I wrote, 'Checked Wednesday with Suri.' I still wanted credit, but now I wanted our visitors to arrive more than I wanted to appear perfect.

How does the foggy harbor setting influence Niko's actions and the plot?
