New York Regents Physical Science: Physics Practice

Practice current New York science with models, investigation reasoning, hypothetical data and selected learning-standard connections.

Independent, original skill practice with selected New York learning-standard connections. These shorter banks sample each tested subject and major content area, but not every assessed standard or official item format. They are not official state tests, Regents simulations, adaptive tests or score predictions.

19 original questions and tasks. Written responses use task-specific self-review checklists and examples, without automatic scoring. Original classroom stories and hypothetical data are fictional; historical sources and paraphrases are identified individually.

Request a hint when you need one. All levels use the same original questions.

A cart-force model

Original fictional classroom scenario; all measurements and models are hypothetical.

In a hypothetical frictionless horizontal model, a 3 kg cart experiences a net force of 12 N east. It starts at rest. For a separate collision, a 2 kg cart moving east at 3 m/s sticks to a stationary 1 kg cart; external horizontal impulse during that collision is negligible.

What is the acceleration of the 3 kg cart under the net 12 N east force?
