A week is a group of seven days that repeats again and again. Learning the days in order helps children talk about school, family time, play, and special events. A weekly calendar makes time easier to see because each day has its own place.

When children know the names of the days, they can understand words like today, yesterday, and tomorrow.

Key Facts

  • A week has 7 days.
  • The days in order are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are called weekdays.
  • Saturday and Sunday are called the weekend.
  • After Sunday, the next day is Monday again.
  • 1 week = 7 days, so 2 weeks = 14 days.

Vocabulary

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Skipping Wednesday, because the middle of the week can be hard to remember. Say the days slowly in order and point to each one on a calendar.
  • Putting Sunday after Monday, because some calendars show Sunday first. In this lesson, practice the order Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
  • Calling Saturday a weekday, because it is still a day of the week. Saturday is part of the weekend, not the school-week group from Monday to Friday.
  • Forgetting that the week repeats, because children may think Sunday is the end only. After Sunday, the next day is Monday and a new week begins.
