Geometry

Perimeter is the rim

Perimeter is the rim

Helps you remember perimeter is the distance around the edge.

When to use it

Use it to distinguish perimeter from area when a problem asks how far it is around a shape.

Example

A rectangle 4 cm by 6 cm has a perimeter of 4+6+4+6=204 + 6 + 4 + 6 = 20 cm, the total length of all four sides.

Common mistake

Calculating area instead of perimeter. Perimeter is adding all side lengths, not multiplying them.
