Understanding Earth Science Vocabulary
Earth science explains Earth as a set of connected systems. This deck moves from patterns you can see every day to processes that take millions of years. Earth’s rotation around its axis creates the regular pattern of day and night.
The terminator marks the shifting edge between lit and dark parts of the planet. Longitude helps locate places east or west, while time zones turn Earth’s rotation into a shared clock for people. These terms are useful when reading maps, explaining sunrise times, or comparing conditions in different places.
Many vocabulary words describe how energy from the Sun affects Earth. Radiation brings solar energy through space. Some surfaces reflect more energy than others, and albedo helps explain this difference.
