Understanding Elementary Earth Science Vocabulary
This vocabulary set is about Earth as a connected system. It starts with the motions of Earth in space, then moves into sunlight, weather, water, land, and living things. These topics may seem separate at first.
They are linked by energy from the Sun and by the movement of water and air around the planet. Earth rotates on its axis, which creates the regular pattern of day and night. The terminator marks the changing edge between the lit half of Earth and the dark half.
Longitude helps people describe where places are from east to west. Since different longitudes face the Sun at different times, time zones help communities agree on local clock time.
