Ordinal Numbers

  • Ordinal numbers describe position in a sequence.
  • 1st (first), 2nd (second), 3rd (third), 4th (fourth)...
  • Most ordinals add th: 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th...
  • Special cases: 1st, 2nd, 3rd (not 1th, 2th, 3th).

Cardinal vs. Ordinal

  • Cardinal numbers count how many: 1, 2, 3...
  • Ordinal numbers tell position: 1st, 2nd, 3rd...
  • You use cardinal numbers to count apples in a bowl.
