Explain the purpose of an expository essay. In 3 to 5 sentences, describe what this type of writing does and how it is different from persuasive or narrative writing.

An expository essay explains a topic clearly using facts, examples, and logical organization. Its main purpose is to inform or clarify rather than to tell a story or convince the reader to agree with an opinion. Unlike narrative writing, it does not focus on characters and events. Look for the choice that gives facts instead of a broad statement.
Evidence B is better because it gives specific, factual information that helps explain the topic clearly. Evidence A is too general and does not provide enough detail or support. Strong expository writing uses precise evidence that informs the reader. - 8
Write a transition sentence that could connect a paragraph about the causes of pollution to a paragraph about the effects of pollution.
