How to use the calculator
Keys and keyboard input
Click or tap a key, or click the calculator and type numbers, arithmetic operators, parentheses, and decimals on your keyboard. Enter calculates. Escape clears the entry, Delete and Backspace edit it, and the arrows move through an expression or menu. Type p for π.
The yellow labels are second functions. Press 2nd before the corresponding key. DRG chooses degrees, radians, or grads. Press 2nd, then DRG for floating, scientific, or engineering notation. Press 2nd, then the decimal point for FIX, which sets the number of decimal places.
Menus show one choice at a time. Use the left and right arrows, then ENTER. The up and down arrows recall earlier calculations on the main screen. DEL removes the token at the cursor. Press 2nd, then DEL to switch between replacing and inserting tokens. Parentheses left open at the end of an expression close automatically when you calculate.
Fractions and scientific functions
Use A b/c between the numerator and denominator. For a mixed number, enter the whole number, A b/c, numerator, A b/c, and denominator. After calculating, press 2nd, then PRB to switch between a fraction and decimal, or 2nd, then A b/c to switch between mixed and improper fractions. Fractions must use positive integer parts. Use the (−) key before a fraction for a negative value.
SIN, COS, and TAN use the current DRG setting. Their second functions are inverse trigonometric functions. Press 2nd, then π for HYP, followed by a trigonometric or inverse trigonometric key. LOG and LN enter logarithms. Their second functions enter powers of ten and the exponential function.
Use x² for a square, ^ for a power, 2nd then x⁻¹ for a square root, and 2nd then ^ for an indexed root. Press 2nd, then x² to enter EE notation such as 1.2 × 10⁵. PRB provides permutations, combinations, factorials, and random numbers. The angle menu supplies angle units and degrees, minutes, and seconds. Its second function opens coordinate conversions.
Memory and constant operations
STO→ stores the current expression in one of five memories, A through E. MEMVAR inserts a memory variable into an expression. Press 2nd, then STO→ to recall its stored value, and 2nd, then MEMVAR to clear all five memories. ANS, the second function of (−), inserts the last result.
Press 2nd, then ÷ to define a constant operation such as ×3. Confirm it with ENTER, then enter a number and calculate. Each following ENTER repeats the operation. Press 2nd, then ÷ again to turn the constant off. The Constant operation example shows this sequence.
Statistics and regression
Press 2nd, then DATA to choose 1-VAR or 2-VAR statistics. Press DATA to enter values. In 1-VAR mode, ENTER moves from X to its frequency and then to the next row. In 2-VAR mode, it moves from X to Y and then to the next pair. The arrow keys move between fields. Press DATA again to return to calculations. The Stored data panel shows the rows you have entered.
STATVAR shows the count, means, sample and population standard deviations, and sums. In 2-VAR mode it also shows the linear regression slope a, intercept b, and correlation r for y = ax + b. Select a variable with ENTER to insert it into a calculation. A statistic that needs more data shows undefined.
You can store up to 42 rows. One-variable frequencies are integers from 0 through 99. A zero-frequency row does not contribute to statistics. Use CLRDATA in the STAT menu to clear the rows, or 2nd then STATVAR to leave statistics mode.
Worked examples and sharing
Choose one of 18 examples covering arithmetic, fractions, percentages, powers, notation, trigonometry, logarithms, hyperbolic functions, probability, memory, constants, statistics, regression, and coordinates. Follow highlights the next key and waits for you. Watch plays one step and pauses. Show me completes a step. Back and Restart example rebuild earlier steps.
Copy link shares your current calculation or example step. A calculation link replays your key presses, including memory and data entry. It supports up to 2000 presses. An example link preserves the current step and key progress. Reset calculator clears the entire session.
Supported features and limits
This simulator is written from scratch using the TI-30X II reference guide for key behavior. It supports real-number scientific calculations, fractions, three angle modes, scientific and engineering notation, fixed decimals, five memories, constant operations, and one and two variable statistics with linear regression. It is a scientific calculator and does not plot graphs.
The display rounds to ten significant digits. Internal precision, random sequences, last-digit results, display fonts, and menu layouts can differ from the handheld. Automatic power down and held-key shortcuts are not reproduced. Expressions are bounded to keep the browser responsive. Error messages describe the simulator's error categories. Press CLEAR to return to the expression after an error so you can correct it. Press CLEAR again to erase the entry.
