Reference Guide

How to Convert

Decimal to percent

Multiply by 100. 0.75×100=75%0.75 \times 100 = 75\%

Percent to decimal

Divide by 100. 75%÷100=0.7575\% \div 100 = 0.75

Fraction to decimal

Divide the numerator by the denominator. 34=3÷4=0.75\frac{3}{4} = 3 \div 4 = 0.75

Decimal to fraction

Write the decimal over a power of 10, then simplify. 0.75=75100=340.75 = \frac{75}{100} = \frac{3}{4}

Benchmark Values

Memorizing these common equivalents makes converting faster.

Fraction Decimal Percent
14\frac{1}{4}0.25 25%
13\frac{1}{3}0.333... 33.3%
12\frac{1}{2}0.5 50%
23\frac{2}{3}0.666... 66.7%
34\frac{3}{4}0.75 75%

Simplifying Fractions

To simplify a fraction, find the greatest common factor (GCF) of the numerator and denominator, then divide both by it.

75100=75÷25100÷25=34\frac{75}{100} = \frac{75 \div 25}{100 \div 25} = \frac{3}{4}

A fraction is fully simplified when the numerator and denominator share no common factor other than 1.

Repeating Decimals

Some fractions produce decimals that go on forever with a repeating pattern.

13=0.33323=0.666\frac{1}{3} = 0.333\ldots \qquad \frac{2}{3} = 0.666\ldots

This happens when the denominator (after simplifying) has prime factors other than 2 and 5. Denominators like 4, 5, 8, 10, 20, and 25 always produce terminating decimals. Denominators like 3, 6, 7, 9, and 11 always repeat.
